Department of Statistics
The Department of Statistics as a separate unit is a recent establishment. The subject started in 1952 as an optional paper for B. Sc. degree course in Mathematics. Mathematics and Statistics being a combined department, lectures of Statistics were engaged by Mathematics lecturers. In 1962, B. Sc. degree course in statistics was started in the Institute. In 1963, two posts of lecturer in Statistics were created and in 1966, an independent Department of Statistics was established.
Shri. S. M. Patil, the first Head of the Department, contributed to the growth of the department up to 1988. He developed the department with well-equipped laboratories and there was increase in the number of students opting for Statistics course. Later on, Shri. S. B. Gadhri headed the department up to 2002.
Presently, the Department is running the course up to B. Sc. II year level.
