History
The department of Economics is one of the oldest departments in the college. Department of Economics was established in 1922.We are proudly said that PG department is the only one of the oldest department in the region. Post graduate class were started in 1926, before the established of shivaji University, Kolhapur. The department offers B.A.; M. Phil, and Ph. D programme. The aim of department is to create awareness of the students in the minds of principles of Economics by observation and understanding of current practices.Hon.Gopal Krishna Gokhale (Social Reformer &Indian economist) and Dr.AjitDange (Ex.Acting Vice-chancellor, Shivaji University, Kolhapur) both are the alumni in the department.Present staff is Dr.T. K.Udgirkar (Head) and Dr. H. N. Kathare. The Department faculty is continuously involved in research activity. The faculty members have also published the number of papers, and booksin the different areas of Economics. The Department has recently produced more than 5 students Ph.D. thesis or dissertations under the guidance by Shivaji University, Kolhapur.The Department has also hosted National / State level Seminars/Conferences and Workshops on various important topics. The department has supplied its very valuable faculty as a Join director,Higher Education in Kolhapur region. To name a Prof. (Dr.) H. N. Kathare (2021-2022).
