History

The Geology Department was established on 24th July 1970 through the initiative of Prof. R.Y. Ghorpade, Department of Zoology in the Library Building. Today, the Department has a separate two-storey building with well-furnished classrooms and a beautiful museum housing geological specimen

The department runs B.Sc Geology course and has a junior wing for XIth and XIIth standards in Geology. Shri Manohar. R. Shinde was the first Head of the Department and was succeeded by Dr. Shashidhar S. Oka, who was a geologist in Directorate of Geology and Mining. Following Dr. S.S. Oka’s transfer to Government Institute of Science, Aurangabad in June 1990, Shri M.R. Shinde again to over as the Head of the Department. In June 1993, Shri M.R. Shinde was transferred to Aurangabad and Dr. S.S. Oka again became the Head of the Department. Dr. S. S. Oka was the Head till 30th April 2002. After his retirement, Shri Dilip. A. Joshi became the Head of the Department till his retirement on 30th June 2003. Shri Murlidhar R. Namdas worked Head from 1st July 2003 to 31st December 2013. On 1st January 2014, Dr. Sanjay V. Pathare became the Head of the Department and is Head till date.

Shri Ulhas S. Bhagwat joined the junior wing of the department on 17th September1992 and is working till date.
