Department of Geology
The Department of Geology was established on 24th July 1970 with the initiative of Prof. R. Y. Ghorpade, the then Head of the Zoology Department. The department was inaugurated by Dr. A. N. Upadhye, well-known Sanskrit scholar. Shri M. R. Shinde was the founder Head of the Department. He was succeeded by Dr. S. S. Oka and Shri. D.A. Joshi.
The Department is currently housed in the Library building. It has two laboratories. The laboratory is equipped with megascopic and microscopic mineral and rock specimen as well as all the instruments required for teaching B.Sc. students. The department has a Geological Museum containing more than two thousand specimens of minerals and rocks of all types present on the earth. The museum has a rich collection of fossils of plants and animals.
