History
The Department of Statistics as a separate unit is a recent establishment. The subject started in 1952 as an optional paper for B. Sc. degree course in Mathematics. Mathematics and Statistics being a combined department, lectures of Statistics were engaged by Mathematics lecturers. In 1962, B. Sc. degree course in statistics was started in the Institute. In 1963, two posts of lecturer in Statistics were created and in 1966, an independent Department of Statistics was established
Presently, the Department is running the course up to B. Sc. II year level.
